    Book details

Meggie loves books. So does her father, Mo, a bookbinder, although he has never read aloud to her since her mother mysteriously disappeared. They live quietly until the night a stranger knocks at their door. He has come with a warning that forces Mo to reveal an extraordinary secret - a storytelling secret that will change their lives for ever.

Some books are destined to be lifelong treasured possessions. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, the bestselling German author of The Thief Lord, could easily lay claim to being such a book. It is a meaty, magical adventure that oozes a passion for books and the awesome power of words on a page, written by an author who clearly adores stories. Every chapter is introduced by tempting quotations from classic novels that whet your appetite for more and help underline the terrific heritage of children's literature that Inkheart is added to.

A really intriguing book that has you thinking different scenarios. I would really recommend you read if before making judgment.

i like the story, but the pace is slow making the book feel neverending. i' m glad the author took all of this out of her system and started to write more focused and better books.

Inkheart is the first book in Cornelia Funke's Inkworld trilogy, which is a celebration of book reading and approaches important topics such as the relationship between life and literature, the connection between different worlds, the power of writers and the power of readers.Twelve-year-old Meggie lives with her father Mortimer, a man who repairs books for a living and who has a special gift: he can read people and things in and out of books. He discovered this gift while reading Inkheart out loud to his family when Meggie was only four. Then one of the most despicable characters in the book, the evil Capricorn, suddenly appeared in their sitting room, alongside a not entirely reliable fire breather called Dustfinger and his horned marten Gwin; but the book took away Resa, Mo's wife. When nine years afterwards Mo, also called Silvertongue on account of his gift, and Dustfinger are brought together, they both know that their conflict of interests over the book will set a series of dangerous developments in motion. The appearance of Fenoglio, the writer who penned Inkheart, brings up evocative questions on the relationship between an author and his characters, such as whether these are condemned to the (un)happy endings prepared for them or could be masters of their own destiny, which echo our own spiritual dilemmas as members of the Creation.I recommend this book to children and young teenagers as well as to adults interested in fantasy and also to students of English as its grammar and vocabulary is just right for upper intermediate learners of English.

My granddaughter loved these books, not sure how many times she has read them.
